RODS Orphan Story

Cooper is home with the Murray Family!
“Since 2012 my family and I have been advocating for orphaned children who have Down syndrome throughout the world. This has been a tremendous experience for Andrea and I as well as our children. During the last few years we’ve often had the impression come to mind that maybe we should adopt a child. After much thought and prayer as well as discussing this with our children we decided in April of 2015 that we would proceed in faith and bring another child into our family through the miracle of adoption. It wasn’t long after making this decision that we found our son on the Reece’s Rainbow website. He was halfway around the world in an orphanage in Tianjin, China.

For the last year we have been jumping through all the hoops of paperwork, home studies and doctors visits to prepare for the day we would travel. Finally the day arrived for us to board a plane to travel to China and ultimately bring our child home. We were in China two weeks from start to finish. It was an experience that changed my life forever. I’ll never forget the feelings that came over me as I saw Cooper for the first time. I knew in my heart that he was meant to be my son.

Cooper has been home now for over a month. He is doing wonderful! Watching him and his siblings together is a constant source of pure joy for Andrea and I. It’s like he has always been part of our family.

Since the beginning of RODS I’ve always felt that the child that is getting a family will no doubt receive a tremendous blessing. But I know firsthand now that the biggest blessing will be given not to the child, but to the family that receives that child. We are the ones who are most blessed.”
