RODS 2100: The Journey Home
March 21 – May 15, 2021
At Racing for Orphans with Down Syndrome, we have always believed that our mission was to get these orphans home as quickly as possible. It is a race against time. It is great that several countries around the world allow children to be adopted. Every child deserves a home.
However, the reality is that orphans with Down syndrome are not treated like other orphans who do not have special needs. Orphans with special needs “age out”. That means that these same countries who provide children for adoption also believe that at some point these children become too old to adopt. Then these orphans are removed from the orphanage and are put into a mental institution. It’s a life sentence. Once they are in the mental institution they will not know home. They will not know family. They will not know love.
Knowing this is the fate of these orphans, RODS wants to move as quickly as possible to get them funded and home.
The RODS 2100: The Journey Home is an event meant to highlight the RODS mission. We are asking hundreds of runners to join us on the journey as we strive to raise $500,000 to fund 50 orphans in 2021 and share the joys of adopting a child with Down syndrome.
The journey starts in Celebration, Florida on March 21, 2021, National Down syndrome day. This 2,100 mile relay race will take us through eight states and past the homes of ten families who adopted children with Down syndrome with the help of RODS. We end in Indianapolis, Indiana with one of our ten families on May 15th.
